Time For Metal / ric1452:
Hello there! Thank you for taking the time for this little interview. I guess you are quiet busy since you are on tour with Rhapsody Of Fire. So let’s start with a simple question: How is the touring and promotion after releasing Emerge going?
Bejelit / Sandro:
Hi Lennart! Thanks to you and to your readers! It's a very big pleasure for us to have this interview with Time for Metal.
We have just fineshed the first part of our tour one week ago, with our appearance at Metalfest Croatia: I can say that this tour has fulfilled all the expectations. We had the possibility to be the open act for a great band like Rhapsody of Fire and to play in front of many more people than before. After this experience we have some headliner shows in Italy and some appearances at European festivals. But it's only the first step of the promotional tour for this new album. It's a very long road!
Time For Metal / ric1452:
You have a lot experience and that could easily be heard on your newest longplayer. Most of you have experience from other bands, too. Are some of you still playing in other bands and how is that going?
Bejelit / Sandro:
Everybody in the band except for me had others music experiences. Our singer Fabio has some experiences in theatre, musical and TV, Giulio played in Drakkar and has a lot of credits as guest musician. Giorgio played in some Italian project and Marco is still playing in Secret Sphere and The Ritual.
Time For Metal / ric1452:
So, how are the reactions on Emerge? At least the reviews seem to be very positive, but what are the fans saying? What’s your own opinion at your album?
Bejelit / Sandro:
Yeah, the most part of Emerge's reviews are very good! Obviously we are very happy about this! We believe in our work and we put in this album all our energies, strenght and passion. Our fans are enthusiastic about the new album and this is the most important thing for us: we don't wanna lose the great support we have from our fanbase but we don't wanna be stuck by our own music style. I mean, it's really great to see all this appreciation about very different albums like "You Die and I..." and "Emerge". We're not playing to do always the same album, maybe with a better production or something like that! Bejelit's music is always evolving
Time For Metal / ric1452:
So what do you think of my review? How good is your German? ;-)
Bejelit / Sandro:
Oh, me and the other guys of Bejelit liked a lot your review! A lot of people told us that the German metal press is not going to give you a good response if you play power metal or something too melodical! Luckily that's not true! Eheheh:D My German ehm...Ich spreche kein Deutsch But, of course I know some bad words eheheh:D It's the very first thing anybody is gonna learn in any language ahahah:D
Time For Metal / ric1452:
Could you shortly present yourselves? You are not that famous in Germany yet, so our followers might want to know you a little better.
Bejelit / Sandro:
Sure! Ok German friends, we're Bejelit and we come from the very north-west part of Italy! We born in 2000 and after a brief moment while we were playin' only covers, we started to work on our own stuff! That led us to our first record deal in 2003 for our first album called "Hellgate". Then we played a lot in Italy to promote our band as well. In 2006 we released our second full length album called "Age of Wars". Both those two albums were lyrically about the very famous Japanese manga called Berserk. We were very inspired by that for our music. Then in 2010 we released our third album entitled "You Die and I..." where we abandoned the Berserk lyrical themes. We tried a different approach to our lyrics, with some a more intimate and obscure mood there. Thanks to that we had the chance finally to "export" our music and Bejelit outside Italy with some experience like Metal Camp in Slovenia, some gigs in Switzerland, Hungary and Ukraine.
Then in 2011 we recorded our fourth album called "Emerge" at our own studio here in our hometown Arona and then we went to mix it to Helsinki at Sonic Pump Studios. Nino Laurenne of Thunderstone did the job extremely well and we stayed there in Finland also for the mastering. "Emerge" was released in March 2012 and from then we'd never stop playing live across Italy and Europe...and then we're here speaking about it!:D eheh
Time For Metal / ric1452:
And now you are touring all through Europe. How do you have the time for recording, touring and family & privacy? Isn’t it really hard to manage it sometimes?
Bejelit / Sandro:
You're right, sometimes it's very difficult to manage all these aspects of our life. Bejelit for us is not a job since we don't earn enough money to live by that, but the amount of work that it require is more than a normal job! So the real element which make it possible is our strong passion for what we do and for music in general. Of course there're a lot of moments when we ask ourselves if this is the right choice but when we receive fans emails, comments on our facebook page and so on, well...they give us all the strength we need to go on!
This is for sure the heaviest moment for us since we have a lot of gigs and we're travelling a lot. We're working to switch our live activity to the "tour way" so few months per year of gigs but very close each other:)
Time For Metal / ric1452:
Something about your gigs: How do you prepare for your concerts? Warm-up or calming down or something else? And how do you spend your time in the tour bus between your concerts?
Bejelit / Sandro:
Cool, this is the very first time someone is asking this:) There are different approaches to warming up before a show but it's not always the same one. Sometimes we like to have some fun and don't think to much to the show, just relax and drink something! Sometimes we prefer to warm up with specific exercises. From the Emerge tour the need to warm up became more strong since the new songs are quite more difficult to play than before and, for example, our drummer Giulio needs some warm up time just before the show. Now we need to warm up also because often we have many gigs in a row and simply you cannot be unprepared and "burn" all your energies on the first one. Usually we spend our time in the bus just talking about music, sleeping, listening to some metal bands and joking:) Of course we're also planning the future stuff:D
Time For Metal / ric1452:
And how do you keep cool on stage? What are your favourite drinks when you’re performing your bombastic Power Metal music?
Bejelit / Sandro:
We're not heavy drinkers so usually we drink nothing more than beer but it's better on stage to drink some water to be always alert of what's going on stage:) Anyway some beers on the stage are always a great solution to keep us cool!:D Our drummer unfortunately during the gig can drink only water eheheh
Time For Metal / ric1452:
How long do you guys plan on touring? Now you’re sharing the stage with Rhapsody Of Fire, but what are you planning after that tour?
Bejelit / Sandro:
We have some plan ready yet for the next autumn. We're trying to plan a new tour, maybe a little bit longer and with the chance to play more in countries like Germany, Holland, Belgium and in Scandinavia. These are "new" places for us! But we need to be patient and wait for something new:)
Time For Metal / ric1452:
A propos planning: What about a new album? Are you already filled with ideas or don’t you even dare thinking about a new piece of music art for now?
Bejelit / Sandro:
We never stop writing new stuff so to be honest we have a lot of new songs quite ready for the next album. But before it we want to promote at 100% Emerge. I think this autumn we're gonna work on some pre-production stuff. Anyway we have some ideas ready yet about the next step of Bejelit career, and about the mood of the new album:)
Time For Metal / ric1452:
Who is in charge for the songwriting? Or are you all participating in the songwriting so that everybody has his role and part in the creative process?
Bejelit / Sandro:
Everyone in Bejelit writes songs and brings ideas into the band. What is different usually it's the way we do that. There's who like Marco or Giulio bring the entire song complete and we need only to arrange it in our rehearsal room or like me bringing some melodies and some guitar riffs to work on. It depends from the instrument we're working with, just the instrument or a sequencer and so on. Anyway the final arrangement is done by all the band.
Time For Metal / ric1452:
Let’s do some nostalgic stuff: How did you guys find each other? As I could see, you came from some different bands, but you still manage it to sound like you’ve always played together.
Bejelit / Sandro:
Me, my brother Giulio and Fabio play together since the birth of Bejelit, Giorgio (bass) was used to play with Giulio in another band but he was with Bejelit since 2001. Marco has a great experience playing metal so it was really easy to join all our forces to play in this band.
Maybe this is because we bring our different influences everyday in our music and we mix them all automatically whenever we sit down to write something, arrange some stuff or playing live. We know exactly what are our limits as players so we know what to do sharing our ideas with each other in the band!:)
Time For Metal / ric1452:
So what are you doing together when you actually have nothing to do, like no touring, no recording, just nothing but free-time?
Bejelit / Sandro:
To be honest we don't spend so much time together. We spend so much time together during our travels and gigs that when we're at home we want to stay a little bit alone eheheh:D
Time For Metal / ric1452:
Now it’s your turn! You have the word and may say anything you like to our followers:
Bejelit / Sandro:
Ok, so thanks again to you and to all your readers! We hope to be soon playing like in Germany, maybe with the next tour! Please continue to support Bejelit with our official site at http://www.bejelit.com and our official facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/bejelit !! See you soon on the road!!! Stay Heavy!!!
Time For Metal / ric1452:
Thank you very much! It was really great to do an interview with you. I wish you the best for the future and may the gods of music always watch over you ;-)
Best regards, Lennart/ric1452
